Nitriding

Nitriding, or increasing nitrogen content (adding nitrogen, similar to the addition of carbon during carburisation) is a process for hardening the surface of steel. In the classification of production processes, it is a process by which a product is created by modifying material properties. The nitrogen in the surface improves the frictional properties, increases sliding properties, and helps protect against corrosion.
